KARACHI: The Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) has been divided into two groups after the restoration of All Pakistan Customs Agents Association (APCAA), Customs Today learnt on Monday.
It is pertinent to mention here that the APCAA, through its CP No D-2947/2010, pleaded the Sindh High Court (SHC) to restore the association. The SHC, in its order issued on October 20, 2014, disposed of the petition by directing the respondents i.e. Federation of Pakistan and others to consider the application of the Pakistan Customs Agent Association as a Customs Agent Association strictly in accordance with law.
The members of Karachi Customs Agents Association (KCAA) had expressed resentment over the elimination of word “Karachi” from the association during the meeting at association platform. The “active members” of the KCAA, which are around 600 to 800, have decided to hold meetings with the office-bearers of the APCAA over the said issue. However; a group of around 150 to 200 members of the KCAA had opted to move the apex court i.e. Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) against the verdict of SHC rather than to hold meetings with the office-bearers of APCAA.
The sources informed Customs Today that the particular group of KCAA consisting of around 150 to 200 members has almost completed all legal formalities in order to move the Supreme Court against the SHC verdict. The sources further disclosed that the said KCAA group would also take the services of some reputed lawyers in pleading the case in SCP. To a query, the sources revealed that the petition against the SHC verdict would be submitted in Supreme Court by the start of January 2015.
