KARACHI: President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra has highly appreciated Pakistan’s armed forces, Rangers, police and other Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) for making all out efforts towards ensuring peace during the celebrations across Pakistan on the occasion of Independence Day.
In a statement issued, Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra said that the Independence Day was celebrated across Pakistan with extraordinary zeal and enthusiasm thanks to the untiring efforts being made by the armed forces, Rangers, Police and other LEAs who were desperate to ensure peace and stability across Pakistan at any cost.
He said that after a long time, Karachiites were seen fearlessly celebrating the Independence Day by hoisting flags, chanting slogans, playing national songs and dancing on the streets of Karachi which sure was an outcome of the ongoing Karachi operation, resulting in restoring peace and stability across the city. “However, the operation must continue and must not come to a conclusion with a view to ensure enduring peace and stability across Pakistan”, he added.
President KCCI further pointed out that during the Independence Day celebration, all restaurants, cinema houses, parks and other public spots were fully occupied by the general public who along with their family members enjoyed the holiday in a peaceful atmosphere.
He said that Sindh Police along with Pakistan Rangers Sindh have done a commendable job by taking steps to ensure peace and security in every locality of Karachi city. “If peace and security continue to prevail in this city, it has the capability to deliver far beyond anyone’s expectation and it can surely breach all previous records in terms of economic performance, which would not only go in favor of Sindh province only but the entire country as well because of the massive revenue contribution being made by Karachi to the national kitty”, he added.
President KCCI further recalled that there was a time when streets were usually blocked and mobile phone services were kept suspended due to security threats during such celebrations in Karachi but it is heartening to note that no such attempt was made during this year’s Independence Day celebration which is a testimony of the improved security situation of Karachi. “But lot more still needs to be done to ensure durable peace in Karachi”, he reiterated.
Referring to a particular incident involving theft of a truck loaded with plastic granules, Iftikhar Vohra appreciated the efforts being made by officers of Sindh Police, particularly DIG East Muneer Ahmed Sheikh, for their prompt response and cooperation to recover the stolen truck. “Noticeable changes are being witnessed in the overall performance and the attitude Police officers which is a good sign. This positive change will surely help in reducing the gap between police and citizens who are usually afraid to visit police station for seeking assistance”, he added.
