KARACHI: President of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra has asked Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to waive off the condition to obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC) for bullet-proof vehicles for the applicants who are recommended by the Karachi Chamber.

In a letter issued to the federal minister, the KCCI president said that the businessmen and industrialists of Karachi have been facing security threats for the last many years. He recalled that there was a time when Karachi city was known for its splendors and magnificence but it has now plunged into the darkness of terror and insecurity.

He said, “Business Community of Karachi is the real victim of Karachi’s lawlessness, our lives are at stake all the time and businesses are suffering terribly as the outlaws are fearlessly threatening us to either fulfill their demands or face the consequences”.

Iftikhar Vohra mentioned that the Karachi Chamber has been constantly raising its voice from time to time against rising insecurity and the failure of Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) to effectively deal with the situation. “It is the duty of the state to provide security and safety to the lives and properties of its citizen but unfortunately, I don’t see it happening in near future and the overall security situation remains vulnerable, leaving no other option for business community but to go for personal security arrangements particularly bullet-proofing of vehicles”, he added.

The KCCI President while reiterating the request to waive off NOC condition for cases recommended by KCCI, said that this will surely help the business community of Karachi to take precautionary steps on their own.
