TUMPAT: The Kelantan Customs Department seized three boats laden with 300 boxes of white cigarettes worth RM1.8 million on the banks of the Pulau Tokang river.
Its director, Datuk Abdullah Zawawi Abd Latif said the seizure was made around 5.30 pm by a team of 15 personnel.
“The three boats were found hidden in the bush near the river banks, covered with palm fronds and plastic to avoid detection by the authorities,” he told reporters here today.
However, he said no arrest was made during the operation.
All the loot was taken to the Pengkalan Kubor Customs Enforcement Branch Office.
As at August, the Customs had seized various counterfeit items worth RM15.6 million with an unpaid tax of RM66.3 million. The agency also made 507 arrests, he added.
