NAIROBI: Kenya’s inflation rate rose slightly to 5.97 percent year-on-year in September from 5.84 percent a month earlier, the statistics office said on Wednesday. Month-on-month inflation was 0.27 percent in September.
Between August and September 2015, Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks’ Index increased by 0.48 per cent. This was an aggregate result from increases in prices of several food items which slightly outweighed the decreases.
Over the review period, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ Index, decreased by 0.18 per cent. This was mainly attributed to cost decreases in respect of common cooking fuels as well as other household utilities.
There was a reduction in the cost of electricity consumption for instance, due to decreases in both fuel cost adjustment and foreign exchange charges per KWh of electricity. The Transport Index recorded a slight increase compared to the previous month despite decrease in the cost of diesel.
