LANDI KOTAL: The elders of Khugakhel, sub tribe of Shinwari tribe, have signed an agreement with Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to lease out 25-kanal of their joint land for 99 years for the construction of a passenger terminal at Torkham border.

The same tribe had earlier leased out 300-kanal joint property in January 2016 for construction of a modern Customs terminal at the border.

The agreement said that Khugakhel tribe would be entitled to Rs800 out of the total Rs2,800 that would be charged by the Customs terminal operators from every truck carrying trade consignment to Afghanistan.

It said that the tribe would be paid Rs1,666,666 as annual rent of the land with an annual increase of five per cent. The agreement could be renewed after 99 years.

Meanwhile, around 100 trucks loaded with wheat flour have been waiting for clearance at Torkham border for the last four days.

Assistant Political Agent Niaz Mohammad said that the force was activated owing to public concerns about increase in road accidents and ensuring safety of the highway.
