SEOUL: South Korea’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, Kia has issued a recall for a lot of Soul EV models because of a problem with their accelerator pedals, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is stating that no less than 208,858 units of the Kia Soul EV will be affected by this recall as the company has found some issues with their accelerator pedals.
According to the feds, a section of the pedal may bend and fracture and if this will happen, the driver will not be able to accelerate the vehicle, which will increase the risk of a crash.
“A section of the accelerator pedal may bend and fracture. If the vehicle has a bent or broken accelerator pedal, the driver may have difficulty accelerating the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash”, says the NHTSA in its recall summary of the problem.
Owners of the Kia Soul electric vehicles which are affected by this recall will be notified by the car manufacturer and the company’s dealers will be adding a supporting rubber underneath the pedal stopper, free of charge. The affected vehicles are from the 2014 and 2015 model years and they have been produced between the 21st of July, 2013, and the 8th of January, 2015. We are not sure at this time whether the carmaker is aware of any injuries / accidents related to this condition.
