OTTAWA: The Kia Soul EV has won the first title of Canadian Green Car of the Year from the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada. The announcement was made during the opening of the Vancouver International Auto Show yesterday.

Four other finalists were nominated for the honor of being the first vehicle recognized for its superior performance in terms of efficiency and fuel economy within its segment. The Kia Soul EV beat the Honda Fit, the Subaru Legacy and the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The title was accepted by Maria Solkis, Vice President of Kia Canada.

Kia Canada is thrilled that the all-new 2015 Kia Soul EV has been recognized by AJAC as the Canadian Green Car of the Year. This acknowledgement is testimony to Kia’s ongoing commitment to deliver environmentally friendly automotive solutions and diverse powertrains to consumers without compromising on design or comfort,” Ms. Solkis said.

Unveiled last year, the Kia Soul EV is powered by an 81.4-kW electric motor. Its lithium-ion polymer battery allows the electric car to travel about 149 kilometres, and it takes about four hours to charge the battery with a 240-volt outlet.

It was during the AJAC’s Test Fest which was held last October that the members of the Association assigned scores to determine Canada’s first Green Car of the Year.
