KOCHI: Two sub-inspectors have been detained and were slapped with the Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act (COFEPOSA) for allegedly helping a passenger smuggle gold.
Immigration SIs E.V. Manu and R. Krishnakumar have been detained for helping Ijas Abdullah, a passenger hailing from Kozhikode, smuggle four kg of gold. The involvement of the cops came to light after the gold was seized from Ijas in January when he was returning from Dubai.
The COFEPOSA Board slapped the charges under the Act on the SIs following recommendation of the CBI which probed the case. Ijas and Muhammed Rasheed who were arrested along with the cops have also been slapped with the same charges.
