KOCHI: Customs police seized 1.5 kilogram of heroin worth rupees 15 million rupees and detained five youth in the connection in Kochi city. The five youths were involved in smuggling narcotics from Jammu and Kashmir to Kochi city.
The consignment was further planned to be transported to Gulf countries. Customs police recovered brown sugar packets hidden inside a bag filled with chips and sweets. Police suspect that two of the arrested youth have links with international smugglers.
Circle Inspector of Excise Special Squad, Sasi Kumar said that the brown sugar was smuggled from Kashmir. The arrested youth alleged that they were used as carrier and did not know about the brown sugar packets that were hidden inside a bag with sweets and chips and handed over to them by an old man. Meanwhile, customs police are positive of making more arrests after investigation.
