Kohat Customs impounds smuggled Iranian apples & vehicle worth Rs5m

KOHAT: The Customs anti-smuggling squad of Kohat customs seized huge quantity of Iranian apples worth Rs5 million while offending vehicle was also impounded.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Asif Saeed Khan Lughmani received credible information about the smuggling of foreign origin apples. He constituted an anti-smuggling squad under the supervision of Additional Collector Customs Muhammad Khayal and Superintendent ASO Kohat Region Javed Khan. The anti-smuggling squad started checking of vehicles near Kohat Tunnel Road. The customs team intercepted a truck which was coming from border area.

The sources told that Customs staff stopped the vehicle carrying smuggled Iranian apples and asked the driver to show any legal document to prove legality of the loaded foreign origin apples, but the driver of the vehicle could not produce any document of legal import via border area.

After search operation, the staff seized 9 tons of foreign origin smuggled apples worth Rs2 million as well as offending vehicle (vehicle carrying smuggled goods) worth Rs 3 million and brought the vehicle to the Customs State Warehouse Kohat. Further investigations are still underway.
