Kohat Customs seized fresh onion in worth of Rs.8.7m

KOHAT: Customs Anti-Smuggling Unit have seized 30,000 kilogram of smuggled onion along with the offending vehicle worth of Rs.8.7 million.

Deputy Collector Mehmood Khattak told Customs Today that in pursuance of information provided by Additional Collector Muhammad Khayal, the ASU Dera Ismail Khan with assistance of police and supervision of ADC intercepted Nissan truck model 2017, the said vehicle was apparently loaded with foreign origin fresh onions which was coming from Quetta.

He informed that since there were no arrangements of offloading at the spot therefore same was shifted to Kohat Customs station for thorough search and storage, on thorough search the ASU recovered 30,000 kilograms of fresh onion estimated in worth of Rs.2.7 million while seized vehicle Nissan truck estimated in worth of Rs.6 million the grand total  of both the seized goods estimated in value of Rs.8.7 million.

Mehmood told that offending vehicle seized under Section 157 of Customs Act 1969, he added that the case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
