Kohat Customs seizes smuggled goods, vehicle Rs6.7m

KOHAT: Collectorate of Customs Peshawar Deputy Collector Mehmood Khattak has said that the customs team deputed at Kohat Tunnel check post seized huge quantity of smuggled items along with offending vehicle worth of Rs6.7 million.

Deputy Collector said that information was received by the Additional Collector Khayal Muhammad that huge quantity of smuggled goods will be transported via Kohat Tunnel check post.

Pursuing the above said information the deputy collector directed to enhance vigilance at the Tunnel check post where on duty Customs staff intercepted a Mazda truck bearing registration no.LES3932.

After interception the staff asked the driver to show if got any valid proofs about loaded goods that they are not smuggled but the driver of offending vehicle (carrying smuggled goods) failed to provide any proof that loaded goods are not smuggled.

The staff made through search of the vehicle and found huge quantity of different smuggled items comprises assorted size umbrellas 2600 pieces, steel nails air pumps for tyres total 760 pieces, 2280 pieces and one Mazda truck.

He said that the value of the seized smuggled foreign origin seized goods is estimated in worth of Rs4.2 million whereas the value of the seized vehicle is Rs2.5 million.

The customs team conducted the whole operation under the supervision of Superintendent Syed Nasir Bokhari Superintendent at Kohat Tunnel.
