ISLAMABAD: The Kohat Custom authorities have collected Rs 16.5 million through auction of impounded vehicles and confiscated smuggled goods.
Sources told Customs Today that the Kohat Customs held the auction of the said goods under the supervision of a deputy collector, in which a large number people participated.
The sources said that there were 17 non-customs paid vehicles which were offered for sale, and all the vehicles were sold on reasonable prices. They added that the total revenue generated from the vehicles and goods was Rs 16.5 million. They also said that only one-fourth of the total value of the “lots” was paid by successful bidders on the spot, while the buyers will pay the rest of the amount within seven days of the holding of the auction.
The lots of confiscated smuggled goods set for sale consisted of black tea, schoolbags, agriculture machinery, car rims and many others items, which also fetched good prices, said the sources.
It is necessary to mention here that customs authorities are holding auction of seized goods and vehicles to enhance revenue collection. This recent auction will also help a lot in meeting the revenue targets set by the Federal Board of Revenue for the fiscal year 2016-17.
