MONTREAL: Finnish equipment manufacturer Konecranes has announced that it will deliver five rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to Termont Montréal container terminal at the Port of Montréal, Canada, in the second half of 2016.
The units, which are 16-wheel RTGs equipped with Konecranes’ patented Active Load Control system, will have a lifting capacity of 60 tonnes, stacking one-over-six containers high and six rows plus truck lane wide.
The cranes will be equipped with autosteering, which is a driver-assisting feature that keeps the unit on a pre-programmed and straight path, as well as a stack collision prevention system and the Truconnect remote service, which provides 24/7 access to support centres.
The Port of Montréal has announced earlier this year that the company will be the future operator of the new Viau container terminal, which is expected to reach an annual capacity of 600,000 teu when fully built.
The construction of the new container terminal will be implemented in two phases, the first one of which will be completed at the end of next year with a US$42m investment from the terminal operator.
The port ranked 91st in the 2015 issue of CM’s World Top Container Ports, having handled 1.4m teu in 2014.
