SEJONG: Prices of imported farm products gained 6.9 percent on-month in June mainly due to a rise in international grain, fruit and vegetable costs, government data showed Wednesday.
According to the data by the Korea Customs Service (KCS), the price index for imported farm produce stood at 107.3 last month, a gain from 100.4 tallied the month before and up 3.2 percent from a year earlier.
The service said the gain was helped by higher prices for key staples, such as grain, beans and coffee. Prices of fruits, especially pineapples, lemons and bananas, rose on-month. Prices of cabbages, carrots and radishes also rose vis-a-vis May.
The KCS said that the index for fishery products stood at 95.3, up a marginal 0.5 percent from 94.9 in May, but down 0.9 percent from 96.2 reached the year before.
The index for imported meat prices moved up 1.1 percent on-month to 143 from 141.4 in May. Numbers rose 6.4 percent from June 2014.
For all farm, meat and fisheries products, the import price index stood at 112.2, up 4.3 percent from the 107.5 reached the month before. The number represents a 4.4 percent rise from the year before, according to the KCS data.
