SEOUL: South Korean state-owned Korea Gas Corp’s imports of LNG fell 13.9% year on year to 22.91 million mt in January-September due to a 7.6% drop in domestic sales because of an economic downturn as well as greater use of coal and nuclear for power generation, the company said Tuesday.
The company did not disclose how much it imported in the third quarter. But given its first-half imports of 16.54 million mt, the company imported 6.37 million mt in Q3, down 4.2% on the year.
This marked the sixth consecutive quarter of year-on-year declines following a 0.5% growth in Q1 last year. The utility said most of the supply was imported under 16 long-term and three medium-term contracts.
