Korea wants strong trade ties with Pakistan: Envoy

SIALKOT:  Ambassador of Korea in Pakistan Dr. Song Jong Hwan has stressed the need for making concrete efforts to boost bilateral trade between Pakistan and Korea. He said that both the countries have been enjoying cordial trade relations and it was high time to further strengthen trade ties.

He stated this while addressing an important meeting of Gujranwala business community held at Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) here. GCCI president Sami Ullah Naeem, SVP Muhammad Iqbal Shaheen and VP Sheikh Abdul Rauf were also present on this occasion.

The Korean ambassador also assured to remove all the trade barriers/ hurdles from the smooth way of promotion of mutual bilateral trade ties with Pakistan, besides, ensuring the hurdle-free access to Korean international trade markets.

Dr. Song Jong Hwan discussed in details the matters of mutual interest and he invited the Gujranwala businessmen to divert their business activities to Korea.

Korean ambassador said that there were bright opportunities of setting the several joint ventures in different trade fields between the Korean and Pakistani companies.

He offered some direct trade relations to Gujranwala businessmen. He also visited some leading industrial units in Gujranwala.

Korean envoy said that both Korea and Pakistan are not only good friends but also the trade partners. He said that the bilateral trade between Korea and Pakistan was declining due to absence of any Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and lacked proper mutual understanding among the trade bodies of the two countries. He said that many Korean companies could do business in Pakistan and explore the new opportunities. He hoped that FTA between Pakistan and Korea would pave the way for increasing the trend in bilateral trade, saying that Korean embassy was available round-the-clock to facilitate the Gujranwala business community in case of visas and arranging business meetings.

While, presenting address of welcome, president of Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) Sami Ullah Naeem said that Korea and Pakistan enjoy most cordial relations, which provide strong ground to strengthen trade economic cooperation. He said that trade between Korea and Pakistan has been growing steadily.

GCCI president revealed that it was encouraging that two countries are working on developing new strategy to enhance trade and diversify the range of trade products.

He added that there was a need to create mutual understanding between business communities to establish direct contact to improve trade.
