SEOUL: A high profile Korean delegation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries visited Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to explore possible business opportunities for investment and joint venture. The delegation was led by Director of Port Investment Cooperation Division, Hi Young Lee.
It showed keen interest in port facilities and the projects like Elevated Port Expressway, multipurpose Bulk/Coal terminal, industrial park and Cargo Village that are planned by the KPT, according to a press release issued here. The delegation was briefed by KPT Chairman Vice Admiral Shafqat Jawed about the role of KPT in trade and commerce of the country.
The KPT chairman informed that Karachi Port is well equipped with dredgers, flotila crafts and has complete infrastructure to facilitate port users. With regards to the depth of Karachi Port channel, he further informed about the recently undertaken dredging which has made the port capable of handling 13 meters draught vessels.
The delegation was also briefed about the future outlook of the port with respect to the commencement of cargo handling activities from bigger PANAMAX vessels that will call on when the first phase of deep water container port attains completion.
The delegation welcomed the initiatives of the port and thanked the KPT chairman. Various projects of KPT came under discussion with respect to their utility for the port. The Korean delegation included Deputy Director of Port Investment Cooperation Division, Kyuhwan Ko, Representative Director, IL JIN International Co. Ltd. (Engineering Company), Hwang Beom Ryu, President SEIL Engineering Company, Jumin Song, Director SEIL Engineering Company, Youngkil Hyun, President GIA Company, Kyu Sung Lee, President Madina Trading Co. Ltd., Nawaz Jan Muhammad and Team Leader Korea Ports and Harbours Association, Yongwong Kim and ex-ambassador to South Korea Shaukat Ali Mukadam.
