KP introduces Hydropower Policy to grab investment in energy sector

PESHAWAR: With the aim to grab more investment in energy sector, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced to make new investor-friendly Hydropower Policy 2016.

This was disclosed during a Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) meeting, presided over by its Chairman Shakeel Durrani, said an official statement.

PEDO Chief Executive Officer Akbar Ayub Khan briefed the participants about the newly-proposed hydropower policy and elaborated that inputs from various energy sector experts and departments had been sought in its development. He claimed the policy was investor-friendly, wherein various incentives had been given to investors through a fast-track and simple procedure.

He said the step would prove as a landmark in maximum utilisation of the power potential of the province as well as boosting its economy. The policy is scheduled to be approved in the forthcoming session of the provincial cabinet. The participants appreciated the initiative of the provincial government.

Secretary Finance Ali Raza Bhutta, Secretary Energy & Power Naeem Khan and Senator Nauman Wazir were in attendance.
