PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government launched the Ehsaas Motorcycle Relief programme, allocating Rs3 billion to support an estimated 1.6 million motorcycle owners across the province.

The scheme promised each eligible recipient Rs2,200 in financial assistance, designed specifically to ease rising fuel costs for motorcycle-dependent households across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Despite the scale of the programme, official records show only 17,658 individuals have registered since the announcement, representing a fraction of the 1.6 million targeted beneficiaries.

Of those who registered, only 8,515 applicants have received formal approval for assistance, leaving the majority of registrants still awaiting a decision on their applications.

More than 5,000 approved beneficiaries have received payments so far, but disbursement figures remain far below expectations given the Rs3 billion budget already allocated for distribution.

In one documented case, a beneficiary received Rs100 instead of the promised Rs2,200, raising immediate concerns about the accuracy and reliability of the payment processing system.

Authorities confirmed the irregular Rs100 payment has triggered a formal verification process, with officials now reviewing the transaction to determine how the error occurred.

Government officials stated the matter is under active investigation, as questions continue to grow surrounding the slow rollout of the programme and limited reach across the province.

The gap between the Rs3 billion allocation and the small number of approved beneficiaries has drawn criticism, with observers questioning the efficiency of the implementation strategy.

No official timeline has been announced for resolving the payment discrepancy or accelerating registration, leaving many motorcyclists uncertain about when they will receive their promised relief.
