PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sugarcane Control Board has asked the federal government to give sales tax exemption on sugar.
The new-established board, in its maiden meeting, also urged the Centre to allow the province subsidy on export of sugar.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has constituted the Provincial Sugarcane Control Board to tackle the issues concerning the important cash crop of the province. Secretary Food is the sugarcane commissioner and Director Food will be the Chairman of the Board. The director General Agriculture (Extension), director Industries, director Sugar Crop Research Institute and Registrar Cooperative Societies are its members from the public sector. One representative of each sugar mills located in the province and representatives from sugarcane growers of the respective areas have been made members of the board.
