KP’s FY20 annual development expenditure falls short by 53pc

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has spent only Rs150.9 billion or 47 per cent out of the Rs319 billion annual development budget for FY20.

According to documents, of the Rs150.9 billion spent by the provincial government, Rs125.33 billion were from the provincial fund.

In addition to that, the KP government spent Rs13.43 billion out of foreign aid and loans.

Moreover, out of Rs59 billion, Rs24 billion was released for the tribal districts out of which Rs23.91 billion was spent in FY20.

According to documents, nine departments of the tribal districts were not able to spend from their budget during FY20.

These departments include, religious and minority affairs, finance, environment, labor, law and justice, minerals, population welfare, science and information technology and transport.

According to the KP Planning and Development Department, the provincial government had allocated Rs237 billion for annual development programme for settled and tribal districts, out of which Rs82 billion were allocated from international aid and loans.

However, the provincial government received only Rs15.79 billion in international aid and loans.

Earlier, the provincial government, while presenting the budget for the FY20, had estimated that Rs220.5 billion would be spent out of the development fund by June 30, however only Rs150.9 billion were spent by the end of the year.

Out of the annual development fund spent in KP for FY20, Rs3.77 billion was spent on agriculture department, Rs244.048 million on religious and minority endowments, Rs238.54 million on finance department, Rs51.44 million on construction, Rs3.54 billion on drinking water, Rs7.49 billion on primary and secondary education, Rs668.27 million on energy and power, Rs44.695 million on environment, Rs62.16 million on excise and taxation, Rs88.219 million on finance, Rs174.37 million on food, Rs2.9 billion on forests, Rs8.692 billion on health, Rs4.7 billion on higher education, Rs1.5 billion on interior, Rs315 million on housing and Rs732.583 million on Industry and handicrafts.
