KPT starts probe into crane fire incident at port area

KARACHI: The administration of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has started the investigation into the incident of fire that erupted at a crane inside the port area.

The source informed Customs Today that the fire suddenly engulfed the whole crane near berth no 11/12 of the KPT as the operator of the crane was busy in handling the cargo goods from one place to another.

The fire tenders were called in emergency and the area was evacuated by the port administration.

An emergency was declared at the KPT and after calling at the helpline the fire tenders rushed at the site. The fire fighters took fifteen to twenty minutes to extinguish the fire after which cooling process got started.

In the incident the operator of the crane, the consignment as well as the vessel anchored near the berth no 11/12 remained unharmed. The incident of fire that broke out at the crane within the jurisdiction of KPT, the source added.

The administration of KPT has started the investigation to dig out the actual facts behind the incident in which the crane present at the port area caught fire whereas it will also be investigated that weather the first aid was available or not.

The spokesman of the KPT has stated that the incident was reported on Wednesday night at 4am and the fire fighter extinguished the fire rapidly whereas no loss of consignment or injury was reported.
