KARACHI: The sit-in of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) workers for restoration of son quota continued on the third consecutive day outside the KPT Office on Eduljee Dinshaw Road.
According to details, the KPT workers demanded that the authorities concerned restore son-quota and medical facilities for retired KPT employees.
Son-Quota Restoration Movement Chairman Lala Nazeer told Customs Today they would not end the sit-in until the fulfillment of their demands, adding that the employees were struggling for the restoration of son-quota for the last 22 months.
“KPT management had not recruited a single employee on son-quota since 1996 despite clear directives of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in 2012,” he added.
He also said that more than 100 recruitments have been made on political basis since 1996, although no single employee was recruited on son-quota in this tenure.
He also said that KMC Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui had suspended the medical facilities for former KPT employees.
Nazeer also said that a son-quota movement delegation had met Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, but the two sides could not reach a consensus.
He vowed that the employees would continue their sit-in until the fulfillment of their demands, as the KPT management has turned a blind eye to the issues of lower-grade employees.
