KTBA assures support to newly appointed Judicial Members of Customs and IR Appellate Tribunals

ISLAMABAD: Federal government issued notification for appointment of Judicial Members of Customs and Inland Revenue (IR) Appellate Tribunals of Lahore and Karachi. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice dated June 2, 2021, Muhammad Arif Khan has been appointed as Chairman Customs Appellate Tribunal.

According to the details, Sajjad Asghar Khokhar advocate was appointed as Judicial Member IR, Bench I, Lahore, Ayesha Fazil Qazi (Bench V, Lahore), Sarfras Ali Khan (Bench VI, Lahore), Zahid Sikandar Bench VII, Lahore, Nasir Mahmood (Bench VII, Lahore), Rashida Siddiqua (Bench II, Karachi), Sardar M Ajaz Khan (Bench III, Karachi), Qazi Anwar Kamal (Bench IV, Karachi), M Aminullah Siddiqui (Bench VI, Karachi) and Aamir Maqsood (Bench VII, Karachi).

Mr. Muhammad Arif Khan, Chairman, Customs Appellate Tribunal, Bench-I, Islamabad, Mr. Abdul Jabbar Qureshi, Member Customs Appellate Tribunal, Karachi, Dr. Naveed-ul-Haq, Judicial Member, Customs Appellate Tribunal, Bench-II, Karachi, Mr. Mumtaz Hussain, Judicial Member, Customs Appellate Tribunal, Peshawar Bench, Mr. Abdul Zahir Achakzai, Member Judicial, Customs Appellate Tribunal, Quetta Bench.

The tenure of the appointees would be three years from the day they assume charge of the respective posts as per standard terms and conditions.

Meanwhile, Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) extended its heartfelt congratulations to the Honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Imran Khan and the Law Minister, Dr. Farogh Naseem for selecting Judicial Members in the Customs Appellate Tribunal and the Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue, all over Pakistan, purely on merit.

At least in the last 20 years of the history of our Tax Tribunals, these appointments have been the best.

The appointments shall ensure alleviation and checking of corruption and incompetence, enabling decisions on merit. Not only this shall enable the recovery of stuck revenues, it shall also remedy the harassment meted out to the taxpayers. Indeed, a very well balanced approach.

KTBA further requested the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan, the Prime Minister and the Law Minister to ensure that all future appointments on all other forums are also made in the same fashion.
