KUWAIT CITY: Personnel from the General Department for Drugs have arrested a Syrian, identified as Thamer Mohammed for smuggling into the country one million Captagon tablets with a street value of about KD three million, says a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior.
The press release said the arrest came following a tip-off from a police agent that a van imported from an European country and specially built with secret compartments to hide the narcotics was about to enter the country.
Police reportedly kept a watch at the Shuwaikh Port but the vehicle failed to show up. However, acting on this information and after conducting intensive investigations, police took into custody the Syrian who was living in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and during interrogation he admitted to smuggling the narcotics into the country.
He also said it was not the first time. Thamer then took police to the new van and after carefully dismantling the vehicle police came out with 49 bags of narcotics.
