KUWAIT CITY: Kuwait Customs officers at the Air Cargo Section have foiled an attempt to smuggle into the country two small drones equipped with developed imaging devices that can identify locations and copy data from documents on a specially designed flash memory, official said here the other day.
The customs officers found the drones among a shipment of toys which arrived from China. Officers concluded these devices (replicas of toy planes) are not classified as toys and are banned especially after it became clear they can fly for long distances and to great heights.
The ‘planes’ have in-built high quality imaging and documenting devices and fitted with a remote control to take pictures and store them. A report on the incident has been sent to the security authorities. Meanwhile, personnel from the Kuwait Municipality (Capital Governorate Branch) recently carried out several surprise inspection campaigns on shops in Shuwaikh selling foodstuff and administratively shut down 19 stores, issued 100 citations, and confiscated and destroyed 440 kilos of spoiled fish, officials added.
