KUWAIT CITY: An Indian expatriate was arrested at Kuwait International Airport for attempting to smuggle valuable watches and cell phones, and fake cell phone batteries into the country.
According to sources, a member of the Customs Union and head of the shift on duty tried to help the Indian expatriate, who had arrived from a GCC country, to bypass the baggage inspection section. However, the attempt was thwarted when a customs officer demanded the suspect to return to the inspection section for the checking of his luggage.
The inspection of his luggage revealed valuable watches and cell phones, and fake cell phone batteries which he was planning to smuggle into the country. Sources revealed that the member of the Customs Union was aware of the time of arrival of the suspect and was trying to help him. The suspect was referred to the concerned authorities with the confiscated items for further investigations while the responsible official will be interrogated.
