KUWAIT CITY: Kuwaiti buyers are concerned as shrimp prices rise on low domestic supplies, and as customers attempt a boycott campaign on social media.
Kuwaiti shrimp sellers says the market will become more balanced in the coming days as imports arrive from neighboring producing countries such as Iran and Saudi, newspaper the Arab Times reported. Prices should fall drastically as a result, said shrimp seller Salama Al-Wuhaibi.
A small basket of shrimp is currently selling for 38 Kuwaiti dinars ($125) while large baskets sell for 100 dinars ($331).
Kuwait traditionally opens its fishing season for shrimp in August, signaling a time when consumers seasonally buy the produce.
