KUWAIT: Kuwait’s consumer price index (CPI) or inflation rate went up by 3.8 percent last August compared with the same month last year, the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) said yesterday. The inflation rate rose by 0.29 percent in August month-on-month, the CSB added in its monthly report.
The general index of consumer prices last April showed a rise in four major groups and a decline in four other groups, while it remained unchanged in others, it noted. The CPI of food and beverages group showed an increase of 5.62 percent last August compared with the same month of 2014 and a rise of 1.78 percent month-on-month compared with last July, the report said.
The CPI of the tobacco and narcotics group recorded a rise of 1.54 percent last August year-on-year and 0.07 percent month-on-month, it pointed out.
The CPI of the clothing and footwear group dropped by 1.77 percent year-on-year and 0.39 percent month-on-month, however, housing services rose by 6.54 percent year-on-year, it stated. The CPI of the health group went up by 1.74 percent last month year-on-year and 0.08 month-on-month.
The CPI of the recreational and cultural group saw a decline of 0.93 percent last month year-0n-year and 0.39 percent month-on-month, however the CPI of education climbed to 4.41 percent year-on-year, it made clear. The CPI of restaurants and hotels group rose to 6.88 percent year-onyear, it said.
