KARACHI: Sindh Agriculture and Research Director General Dr Atta Hussain Soomro said that rice growers have suggested a seventy percent subsidy on driers to dry the paddy crop.
The World Bank has ensured its cooperation in this regard. An institution is working in Tando Jam to discover and bring improvement in the new seeds, he said on the visit of Rice Exports Association Pakistan.
Rice Exports Association of Pakistan Chairman Salman Rafique said that the farmers need awareness about the usage of new crops. Paddy crop are 10 to 12 percent in danger due to unawareness. Therefore rice processing steps and production cost are increased that is why Pakistani rice producers are unable to compete in international markets. The Rice Research Institute is holding a seminar to promote awareness among farmers about paddy crop to bring improvement in their yield, Rafique added. He said further that rice exporters were facing energy crises in Hawks Bay and Port Qasim which were badly affecting the import. He asked the Sindh government to devise a strategy in order to control energy and water crises.
