Lahore Enforcement foils Rs300m smuggling bid in Shah Alam Market amid armed resistance

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Enforcement squad led by Assistant Collector Arslan Mughal, seized illegal goods worth an estimated Rs300 million during a high-risk operation in Shah Alam Market on Thursday.

/ Acting on directives from Collector Saeed Wattoo, the operation targeted smugglers involved in trafficking cigarettes, betel nuts, gutka, and other contraband.

The raid, based on intelligence, faced stiff resistance as smugglers opened fire on the customs team, injuring an inspector and a sepoy.

The details were disclosed during a press conference held today at the Customs House.

 Assistant Collector Arslan Mughal briefed the media, highlighting the role of the Shafiq Papa group, known for smuggling activities, and their alleged involvement in prior cases.

Superintendent Rashid Munir confirmed that FIRs for smuggling and assault on officials are being registered separately.

Collector Saeed Wattoo commended the team for their bravery and swift action in neutralizing the smuggling attempt despite life-threatening challenges.
