LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has barred the Excise and Taxation Department from receiving property tax from the Pakistan International Airlines.

According to details, during hearing of the case at the Lahore High Court a few days ago, the PIA lawyer argued in the court that the national carrier was a federal organisation so the Punjab Excise cannot send notice to the PIA in the wake of property tax. The LHC, after listening to the arguments of the parties, barred the Excise Department from receiving property tax from the PIA.

Earlier, the Excise and Taxation Department had sent a notice to the PIA for payment of property tax in the wake of a plane grounded at Chauburji Park Lahore. The Excise Department had sent a notice of Rs 1.5 million to the Pakistan International Airline for the property of plane space at the park.

The PIA has claimed that that plan is for entertainment of the common public so the department had no authority to receive property tax on that fixed plan.
