Lahore I&I seizes smuggled goods, vehicle worth Rs12.88m during different IBOs

LAHORE: In line with the vision of Director-General Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&) Faiz Ahmad Chadhar to nip the menace of smuggling in the bud, the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) team of Directorate of Intelligence & Investigation-Customs, Regional Office, Lahore conducted successful operations and seized smuggled goods worth Rs12.88 million.

Sources told Customs Today that in the recent days under the leadership of Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Ms. Saima Shahzad and under the supervision of Ch. Rizwan Bashir Kalair, Additional Director Customs and including Mr. Ali Asad, Deputy Director, Rai Muhammad Waqar, Superintendent, Aslam Iqbal, Ali Tahir and Ahtisham Naveed, Intelligence Officers and other customs staff.

During these successful en-route operations on a tip off, the Directorate intercepted three vehicles on 23.01.2023 and seized huge quantities of smuggled/ non-duty paid goods comprising cigarettes 60 cartons (valuing Rs6.0 million, cloth 1140 kilograms (valuing Rs2.28 million) and betel nuts weighing 1840 kilograms (valuing Rs4.60 million loaded on the said Suzuki Pickups and Shahzore, total valuing approximately Rs12.88 million were recovered.

Further, 01 tampered Toyota Coaster Model 1993, has also been impounded valuing approximately Rs5.0 million.

It is necessary to mention here that Director Ms. Saima Shahzad directed all anti-smuggling squads to adopt zero tolerance policy against smuggling.
