Lahore RTO leads highest number of active taxpayers in 2023

LAHORE: The Regional Tax Office (RTO) Lahore has emerged as the frontrunner in registering the highest number of active taxpayers, securing the top spot among various tax offices in Pakistan.

According to data released by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the apex tax collection agency in the country, RTO Lahore has displayed exceptional performance by maintaining a substantial lead in active taxpayer registrations up to June 30, 2023.

As of the given date, RTO Lahore has recorded an impressive figure of approximately 0.71 million active taxpayers, showcasing its commitment to enhancing the tax base and contributing significantly to the nation’s revenue pool. The total number of active taxpayers for income tax across all tax offices stands at 3.94 million as of June 30, 2023, further highlighting RTO Lahore’s substantial contribution to this overall figure.

The detailed breakdown of the data illustrates the individual performance of each tax office in terms of Income Tax filers and Sales Tax filers during the fiscal year 2022-23. RTO Lahore outshone its counterparts with a remarkable Income Tax filers and Sales Tax filers, making it the undisputed leader in both categories.

The second position in terms of active taxpayers was secured by RTO Karachi, closely following RTO Lahore.

Other significant contributors to the active taxpayer count include RTO Islamabad, RTO Faisalabad, and RTO Sialkot, with each office showcasing noteworthy figures in both Income Tax and Sales Tax categories.

The data underscores the vital role played by RTO Lahore in fostering a culture of tax compliance and revenue generation. The office’s robust efforts to encourage taxpayers to participate in the formal economy have resulted in a substantial increase in active registrations.

The FBR’s emphasis on broadening the tax base and promoting transparency has been echoed by the stellar performance of RTO Lahore.
