NEW YORK: International travelers flying to Columbus by corporate or private aircraft now have a separate customs facility from the general public. The existing space inside the Port Columbus terminal will continue to handle commercial air traffic.
Lane Aviation built the $900,000 facility for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Lane is a fixed-base operator at the airport and offers general aviation services such as flight support and fueling.
“Our existing tenants could use it with ease,” said Mark Myers, vice president of business development at Lane Aviation. “New international arrivals can also be serviced from us quickly.”
The facility accommodates aircraft carrying up to 20 people.
“It’s the same process that passengers will go through here that they would go through in any international airport,” said William Ferrara, the field director of operations for U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Chicago office.
