KUALA TERENGGANU: In its biggest haul this year, the state Customs Department seized cigarettes worth some RM578,600 in two separate raids.
Department deputy director Radzi Muhamad said a 47-year-old shop house owner was detained in one of the raids.
In the Aug 16 raid, the man was detained at about 5pm and 94 cartons of various brands of cigarettes were found hidden in a kitchen of his shop house located at Bukit Amar, Bandar Permaisuri, Setiu.
In the second raid at 6.30am the next day, officers foiled an attempt to transport the contraband using a Toyota Hiace van at KM44, Kampung Jambu Bongkok in Dungun. The driver of the van fled leaving the van behind.
