KARACHI: The Lasbela Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has threatened to start countrywide strikes if the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) is imposed.
LCCI President Yakoob H Karim, in a statement, said if the GIDC was imposed on the pretext of so-called Pak-Iran gas pipeline project, the industry would start shutting down local business and all the exports shipments too would come to a halt.
Terming GIDC unfair and unethical, he warned that the business community across the country would resist any attempt to pass the controversial GIDC Bill 2015.
Yakoob said that the former government had passed GIDC, which was challenged in various courts whereas all chambers across the country also rejected the revision of GIDC last year, but the government promulgated an ordinance on 25 September 2014 with the objective of over-riding the stay granted by high courts.
