LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Sohail Lashari said that government and protesters should end deadlock and negotiate on mutual terms in the larger interest of economy which is suffering mainly from prevailing political disturbance.
In an exclusive talk with Customs Today on current situation, he advised the government not to use power against demonstrators as he thinks it will only add fuel to fire. He said political leadership must step forward to ease the tension between government and PTI chief Imran Khan so that week long protests come to end.
“Democracy is the only way country can move forward, so we should avoid such unconstitutional steps which can endanger democracy in country” he added.
He was of the view that demands of electoral reforms and a transparent elections were constitutional but asking a sitting Prime Minister to step down will set a bad example for successors and anybody with some thousands supporters will demand the resignation.
Responding to a query, he said national exchequer has suffered millions of rupee loss due to blockade of roads, adding that even after a week traders were unaware about their containers.
“In prosperity no one step out of home for protests so government should also consider the genuine grievances of public and must provide them basic necessities at their door steps” he said.
