HAVANA: The members of the 22nd Latin American and Caribbean Brigade of Solidarity with Cuba backed the struggle of the Caribbean island for the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than half a century now.
During a meeting at the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, which served as culmination of the visit to the island of more than 170 brigade members from 13 nations, voices joined for the cessation of the criminal siege.
The final declaration of solidarity group, read by Ecuadorian Karoll Niquinga, expressed the demand for an immediate end to the unilateral measure, which violates the human rights of the Cuban people.
The proposal that the 17th of each month actions against the blockade and in support of the cause of other Latin American and Caribbean peoples take place in Cuba and elsewhere was one of the agreements reflected in the document.
Through the statement, the brigade members also called for the immediate return to Cuba of the territory illegally occupied by the U.S. in the eastern province of Guantanamo.
Moreover, they called on all social and solidarity movements to join the Day against the Blockade, to be marked in September in the U.S. capital.
Participants were also invited to take part in the meeting For peace and against Military Bases, to be held in November in Guantanamo, and in the 8th Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, scheduled for July 28-30 in the Dominican Republic.
As part of activities during its 15-day visit, the brigade participated in the main rally for the 62nd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes garrisons, held in Santiago de Cuba.
They also visited places of historic, cultural and socio-economic interest in the provinces of Artemisa, Havana, Camagüey and Guantanamo.
