LAHORE: The legal work at the Special Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling on Thursday came to a halt as the legal fraternity boycotted the court proceedings.
Lawyers across the country observed Thursday as ‘black day’ to mark the tragic incident of May 12 (2007) when riots in Karachi left over 50 people dead and hundreds injured. The unrest began as former chief justice, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, arrived at the Karchi airport on May 12, 2007.
Gunfights and clashes erupted across the provincial capital as supporters and opponents of the judge, belonging to different political parties, took to the streets against each other.
On Thursday, more than 15 cases in customs court were scheduled in which most of the cases adjourned without any proceedings.
