Lawyers strike: SHC postpones hearing on third consecutive day

KARACAHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday postponed the hearing of cases on third consecutive day due to the boycott of lawyers community.

On the call given by Pakistan Bar Council and others, the legal representative bodies protested against alleged abduction of dozens of missing persons who were picked up from different area of the Karachi.

On Wednesday, the Judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC) were informed that Owais Ali Shah Advocate son of SHC Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah has been safely recovered from Tank (KPK), However, dozens of other persons who were alleged picked up or kidnapped by banned organizations or law enforcement agencies are still missing. Therefore lawyer community will continue full day strike on Wednesday for their safe recovery.

The representative of the Sindh High Court Bar Association requested the judges to discharge the cases; therefore, the court postponed the hearing of the cases related to custom and income tax without any proceedings. The court proceedings remained suspended on Monday and Tuesday.

According to the roster, cases were fixed for hearing before a division bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro and Justice Khadim Hussain M Sheikh, were customs and income tax related including those which were filed by collector, Model Customs Collectorate versus Customs Appellate Tribunal bench-I & others, Mrs Huzoor Begum and others.
