LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Senior Vice President Khawaja Khawer Rasheed has expressed concern over the inapt attitude of some customs officers who are deployed at Port Bin Qasim as they pay no heed to the genuine grievances of the importers.
Talking to Customs Today, he said that the customs officers were meant to serve the importers and exporters by all legitimate ways.
He said that the importers complained time and again that the deputy collector level of the officers were creating impediments in the way of smooth business at the Port Qasim.
He said that these officers should work with diligence for the promotion of trade and industry instead of serving their own interests. He also lamented that e the importers had to wait outside for three to four days to meet with the concerned DC which is tantamount to create hurdles in the ways of smooth working of the importers. He said that undue delays in the clearance of importers consignments at the Port Muhammad Bin Qasim due to non-cooperation of officials at Port Qasim caused difficulties for the genuine importers, besides tarnishing the image of Pakistan Customs.
He said that importers complaints should immediately be redressed in the larger national interests He taking strong exception of delaying tactics in the process of clearing consignments, urged the customs top officials to redress the grievances of the importers to increase business activities in the country.
