BEIRUT: The head of Lebanese Customs ordered mass employee transfers within the department, in a move that marks the first large-scale relocation operation of its kind.
The administrative order will see 800 officers and customs staff being transferred to different posts, according to a statement released by the Finance Ministry.
The move serves to “improve the performance” of the Customs Department in line with the ministry’s efforts to boost the productivity of its different branches, the statement said.
It should be noted that this is the first time that a transfer of this magnitude was carried out,” the statement read, adding that future transfers will target the administrative and military branches of the Customs Department.
