Lesco charges 1.114m detection units to electricity thieves

LAHORE: Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) claimed to have charged 1.114 million detection units worth millions of rupees to electricity thieves, in its anti-theft campaign during current month.

The company’s spokesman said here Tuesday that Allama Iqbal Division XEN Muhammad Ramzan Butt led combing operations in all sub-divisions of his domain to detect electricity theft.He explained that Rana Town Sub-Division SDO (Operation) Syed Aatif Qamar detected and removed around 450 hooks (illegal connections on transmission lines) by nomads living in the areas of Tali wala Khho and Turki wala Camp.

He added that the Lesco had also disconnected 10 power connections of consumers, who were stealing electricity through tempering of meters. The respective sub-division also submitted 20 applications with Hanjarwal Police Station for registering FIRs under Electricity Theft Act, he maintained.
