SEOUL: LG has teased its upcoming LG G4 flagship smartphone, the new smartphone is set to launch to launch on April 28.

The teaser video, besides touting the LG G4’s ‘Quantum IPS’ display, also hints at the design of the smartphone. Although it is difficult to jump to a conclusion, the smartphone design shown in the teaser matches with the recently leaked product listing of the smartphone on the company website.

The 46-second YouTube video teaser for the LG G4 starts by asking “Do you think all the QHD displays are the same?”, followed by some glimpses of the screen of the smartphone. The video also notes the Quantum IPS display to be 25 percent brighter and feature 20 percent wider colour range than its competitors.

Earlier this month, LG Display had revealed details about the 5.5-inch QHD IPS display that will be used on the LG G4, saying it features a high colour gamut (120 percent gamut), as well as improved brightness (30 percent increase), contrast ratio (50 percent higher than conventional QHD LCD panels), and power consumption. The display panel is also thinner, and features enhanced touch responsiveness using Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology that embeds the touch sensor within the LCD.

The South Korean giant’s display arm had also touted a new photo-alignment technology that uses UV light to form a liquid crystal alignment layer in the display panel, and delivers a higher contrast ratio by aligning the liquid crystals evenly to reduce light leakage. With the improved brightness and contrast, LG says the new 5.5-inch QHD display is now better at bright outdoor conditions.

LG has till date confirmed a few other specifications for its upcoming G4 flagship. The handset will feature a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) resolution IPS display with a pixel density of 535ppi; LG UX 4.0 with new features; 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture; LED flash and laser autofocus, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

In the meanwhile, the LG G4 micro-site that went live briefly revealed the smartphone will come in both leather and plastic rear panels, SD card support, 3000mAh battery, and a manual camera mode where users can play with shutter speed, OIS, brightness, image quality (raw/ jpeg), white balance of the handset’s camera and more.

LG last week announced its consumer experience programme of giving out 4,000 G4 flagship smartphones to select consumers in 15 countries including India. The consumers are supposed to use the handsets and share their experiences.
