LG to build upcoming Nexus smartphone: rumour

TOKYO: AndroidPit reveals “LG will build the upcoming Nexus smartphone, but it will be based on an unreleased prototype.” The device will not be based on the LG G4, the latest flagship from the company, adds the report. The report appears to be in line earlier report by AndroidPolice which said that Google will launch two Nexus smartphones: one by LG and one by Huawei.

According to the AndroidPolice report, LG’s Nexus which was codenamed Bullhead will have a 5.2-inch screen, while the Huawei phone which is codenamed Angler could come with a bigger 5.7-inch screen. Interestingly at the Google I/O conference, Google had used the LG Nexus 5 device when it had announced support for USB Type-C in Android M, although it’s not clear if the next device will have a similar look and feel. While it is not clear if and when Google will launch the next line of Nexus devices, the Nexus 6 appears to have suffered. The 6-inch screen and high price meant that not many people would buy Nexus 6, especially in a budget conscious market like India.  Now the Nexus 6 has got a price cut on Flipkart with the device starting at Rs 34,999 for the 64GB version. It remains to be seen what the next Nexus looks like and whether Google will finally go back to the mid-range pricing.
