LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has stopped the federal government from collecting sales tax through income tax returns that was already paid by the fillers in electricity and gas bills. The LHC also issued a notice to the federal government in this regard.
According to details, Justice Aisha A Malik heard the case filed by the president of the Lahore Tax Bar Association, Farhan Shehzad. During the hearing, the counsel for the appellant argued that the taxes already paid could not be collected again.
Added more, he said that that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has locked computerized sales tax entry in the system. Through this act, the FBR is collecting double taxes first in electricity and gas bills and second through income tax returns.
Counsel further said that through this act of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) citizen are bound to pay double taxes compulsory this is illegal and un-constitutional act. He appealed before the court that court must stop the FBR to collect double taxes from the public.
After hearing the arguments of appellant LHC stopped the FBR for taxes through income tax returns which was collected through gas and electricity bills also seeks reply from the Federal Government.
