LHC bars RTO to recover Rs120m from Multan Medical College

MULTAN: The Lahore High Court Multan bench granted stay order to Multan Medical and Dental College and stopped Regional Tax Office for attachment of their bank accounts.

Sources told Customs Today, that Lahore High Court granted stay order to Multan Medical and Dental College after proceeding of their writ petition.

Director Multan Medical and Dental College Imran Rasool filed writ petition against Regional Tax Office Multan and he has challenged the decision of attachment of bank accounts for recovery of income taxes. The Regional Tax Office issued several notices to Multan Medical and Dental College to clear the payment of Rs.120 million under the head of income taxes.

But Multan Medical and Dental Collecge did not paid income tax on time after that Regional Tax Office Inland Revenue teams attached the official bank accounts for the collection of taxes.

Regional Tax Multan Office argued and presented the tax records of Multan Medical and Dental College and they informed that college authorities were asked multiple times for the payment of their outstanding taxes but they were reluctant to pay so then we attached the bank accounts in order to recover outstanding amounts.

The Regional Tax Office Multan has collected Rs.110 million cheque after freezing bank account of Multan Medical Collecge

Multan Medical and Dental College prayed to court that recovery of Rs.110million in wake of income taxes was illegal and we are paying all taxes on time.

There was no due taxes on the organization and after that Lahore High Court Multan bench has issued relief to Multan Medical College by vacating tax notices and directed Regional Tax Office Multan to open their bank accounts immediately and  return back their cheque of Rs110 million.
